NaviGate Prepared Helps The TST BOCES Achieve School Safety Goals Throughout The State Of New York

The Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (TST BOCES) in Ithaca, New York is offering Emergency Management software, a leading school safety platform to schools throughout the state as part of its Work Environment Health and Safety Service.

The goals of this relationship are to help New York schools create their school safety plans in compliance with state requirements, provide a consistent means of communication to first responders and improve the overall safety of students and staff.

How Emergency Management Software Fits

“This is a natural extension of the safety and compliance services we offer,” states David Pitcher, director of facilities at TST BOCES.”We are thrilled to offer such a robust software platform. From the Safety Wizard component which incorporates New York state safety plan requirements to the app which integrates with student information systems and allows staff to account for students by name during drills or emergencies, we are confident administrators can enhance school safety and gain peace of mind with this solution.”

The complete Emergency Management system stores important school safety plans and associated information, such as call lists, building maps, detailed floor plans, 360-degree photographs of key building areas, including life-safety and shut-off valve locations, and more, in a secure cloud environment. It offers authorized users and first responders, including 911 dispatchers, immediate, real-time access to this information. The app provides immediate access to student rosters so staff can account for students by name. Staff can also retrieve up-to-date emergency procedures ensuring consistent preparation for each situation.

According to Chris Porter, business development manager, “The team at TST BOCES has a clear vision for school safety. They see an opportunity to leverage our software as a means of achieving their goals in their component districts and throughout the state of New York.”

Enhancing the TST BOCES Mission

TST BOCES praises the software platform for enabling a consistent exchange of data between schools and first responders. It enhances much of what TST BOCES is doing in school safety, but streamlines their efforts and makes school safety more manageable for staff.

The TST BOCES Cross Contract offering will enable them to further service their component schools and all schools in New York with implementation and execution details specific to New York and make the Emergency Management software platform available for state aid.

TST BOCES Superintendent, Jeff Matteson, explains, “We want to immerse our team in the learning process and make sure we identify any questions or situations unique to New York safety requirements so we can pass all pertinent information to our schools.” He adds, “The software is highly intuitive and straightforward which is key to getting everyone up and running quickly and efficiently.”
